Tips & Techniques
For making better Paper Animations
Scoring
Scoring helps paper fold neatly and makes models work better. Before cutting pieces out, score the fold lines with a stylus or a blunt instrument. Use a rule to keep your line straight. Press gently to indent the paper, making an even crease. Never pierce the paper.
Cutting
Cut parts out carefully along cut lines. Smaller scissors make it easier. Smaller pieces may require the use of a craft or Xacto knife. Cut circles out precisely by holding the craft knife steady and turning the paper. Take your time. Use sharp instruments with caution. Children should be supervised or assisted by an adult.
Folding
Fold parts before applying glue. Note the fold type before folding. Hill folds have the fold at the peek, while valley folds have the fold in the valley. Parts with a curved shape are created by laying flat and rolling a pencil across the piece until paper curls.
Gluing
Apply glue thinly and evenly with a toothpick on shaded areas. With just the right amount of glue pieces will bond instantly. White school glue such as Elmer‘s works best.
